The Project

Let’s Meet in L’Aquila
A journey of knowledge and belonging to the city of L'Aquila, through a historical narration by Professor Antonio Porto, a theatrical path by Teatrabile and Teatro dell’Argine and the curiosity of children and teachers from Istituto Comprensivo "G. Rodari"- Sassa Primary School
A project by Teatro dell’Argine, Teatrabile and Istituto Comprensivo “Gianni Rodari” in L’Aquila; in collaboration with L’Aquila Municipality and Teatro Stabile Abruzzese
NOVEMBER 2014 - JUNE 2015
An experience capable to narrate a city
The city we are living in and the city we imagine to live in
The city we used to know and the city I'd love to multiply so that everybody can get to know it
Let’s Meet in L’Aquila is a project about theatre, social cohesion and active citizenship, dedicated to L'Aquila younger generations, and aiming at rebuilding the historic memory of those places that got lost or transformed after the earthquake the city of L'Aquila suffered in April 2009. This main aim was pursued through theatre workshops and historical narrations lead by experts.
The project was born in November 2014, thanks to Primary School of Sassa teachers (Istituto Comprensivo "G. Rodari", L'Aquila), was developed especially thanks to Tiziana Mattei’s coordination and involved schoolboys and girls from classes 5A and 5B. Children had the opportunity to use theatre and narration to discover anew or re-discover places of their own city who where transformed or destroyed in the earthquake. A journey of social and cultural identity, through historical memory.
Let’s Meet in L’Aquila had its final event on June 6th 2015 at 6.30pm: a theatre march through the city streets involved hundreds of L'Aquila citizens. Protagonists were of course all schoolchildren, who performed small theatre pieces created by themselves in the workshops, but also L'Aquila Provincial Fire Department, players from L’Aquila Rugby Club and students from Public Music Conservatory "A. Casella".

Benedetti"; Dean, teachers, students and administrative staff from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa; Andrea Mandruzzato, for video documentation and content.
Tales and stories are kept alive thanks to continuous transgenerational storytelling.
The same way, our city’s identity can be kept alive: we have to go through it, tell it, take care of it, maintain its spaces, culture and history, that live in the collective memory and whose custody must necessarily be given to our young, as a strong anchorage for their future.
This was the main aim of a group of little girls and boys and of passionate and intense theatre workers, who realized a travelling theatre performance touching the most important city places. All performance pieces were created through theatre means, starting from emotions generated by both historical narration and interviews that children realized with many important people and institutions on L’Aquila area. A simple question was asked everybody: “What are the 5 places that can’t be missing in your ideal town?”. Hundreds of answers were given, which were the starting point for the creation of our theatrical city walk.
Hundreds of people took part to the final event, conceived, created and realized by children thanks to theatre and memory: a way to meet again in a city centre which wasn't a meeting point since years.
